31 August 2006 - 30 miles in the last week
I was in two minds about going out this evening, but the possibility of hitting 30 miles in a week was there so I joined the guys a Portslade Hedgehoppers for a run out to Devil's Dyke. Tomorrow is definitely going to be a day off. I'm not sure if I' missed it before, but me right ankle does seem to be quite swollen, though I don't think it hurts any more than normal. I've been doing the ice and elevation stuff, and tomorrow will be a rest.
The results from yesterday's army orienteering event came out and I finished 23 out of 108 - which is better than I felt at the time :)
5.8 miles in 58 minutes (30.01 miles in the last 7 days)

30 August 2006 - Four miles with the Army
Four miles. It does't sound far, but it took me almost an hour navigating through rough terrain near Deepcut. During the second half of the event I was running alongside a soldier (and obviously I couldn't let him overtake me) which almost did me in. Ankle doesn't feel too bad though.

29 August 2006 - Portslade Hedgehoppers
Had a run over the downs this evening with Portslade's Hedgehopper club. The guys were too fast for me and after four miles I had to take a shortcut. Right ankle was hurting, so I stuck it in a bucket of icy water when I got home.

27 August 2006 - Hove Park
Edward (8) planned an orienteering course in Hove Park this afternoon so we had a gentle run round. I have a couple of injuries: a sore ankle that appeared after running in the Lake District a two weeks ago, and a blister on my right heel that has been there for a couple of months. A chap that took a first aid course I attended earlier in the week told me to cover the blister in gaffer tape. I did that today, but forgot yesterday for the Beachy Head run. As a solution, it looks a bit industrial, but it would be good if it works.

26 August 2006 - Week 1
Have been lent a book called 'The 100 day marathon programme'. The supposed idea being that you can train up to the distance in 100 days. Unfortunately there are only 70 or so days left ahead of the big event so I have had to skip the first few chapters!
Hopefully this won't be a big deal as I have already been running quite a lot in orienteering competitions. This last week has felt like the first week when I have been focussed on the marathon and have been following the 100 day plan. I'm officially in week 4 and my long run today was 10 miles over the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. The weather was a bit mixed, with a torrential downpour during the last couple of miles. I carried far too much gear and the pace was pretty slow. But it's relatively early days still.
Mileage count for 'week 4' - 18.71 miles in 3 hours 16 minutes
